Wheat Beers

Also called Witbier (Wit), Tarwebier, Bière Blanche (Blanche) or Bière de froment. There are quite a few very nice ones around. The most common is the Hoegaarden that we all know, wherever we are in the world.

Over here though, you can get it in some quite ridiculously sized glasses (as you can see in this photo of Al :-) which is ok because it is only 4.9% alcohol, which for a Belgian beer is definitely on the low side. You shouldn't ask for a Hoegaarden here though, because there are often more than half a dozen Hoegaarden beers available wherever you go. Ask for a Blanche though, and 9 times out of 10, you'll get a Hoegaarden.

Oh yeah, sorry to report this to our mates in Dublin, but at the bar down at my work's sport's centre, a normal sized (250mL) glass of Hoegaarden Blanche is only €1.

Hoegaarden Wit/Blanche (4.9%)

Vuuve (5%) Coriander and Orange

Blanche des Neiges (5%)

Floris Pomme

Watou's Wit (5%)

Leeuwse Witte (5%)

Blanche Du Hainaut Biologique (5.5%)

Watch this space - the descriptions and more interesting stuff (maybe) coming once I've finished taking and uploading more photos.
